Tragic Hit-and-Run in Normanton Claims Life of Cyclist

Alan Tankard, 31, from Normanton, has died following a serious collision on Wakefield Road. The crash happened at around 11:20pm on Wednesday, April 13.

Black Honda Civic Crashes Into Cyclist and Flees Scene

A black Honda Civic travelling north collided with Mr Tankard’s push bike before driving off. Emergency services found the cyclist with fatal injuries at the scene.

The abandoned Honda was found shortly afterwards. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are currently in police custody.

Call for Witnesses and CCTV Footage

The West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or the events leading up to it to come forward. They are particularly interested in CCTV footage.

“The car involved failed to stop at the scene and two arrests have now been made,” said DCI Helen Steele. “We urge anyone with information or footage to get in touch.”
