Knife attacker guilty of attempted murder after stabbing two London cops
A man has been found guilty of the brutal stabbing of two police officers in central London. The violent attack left the officers with serious injuries during a police response in Leicester Square.
Violent Knife Attack in Leicester Square
The shocking incident happened in the early hours of September 16, 2022. Officers from the Central West Command Unit were attending a separate call in Leicester Square when trouble erupted. A man, later identified as Mohammed Rahman, 25, was reported to be in possession of a knife. After a member of the public said he was robbed of a phone power bank, Rahman refused to cooperate and suddenly lunged at the officers.
Though Rahman initially managed to escape, backup arrived swiftly. However, during the arrest attempt, he stabbed a female officer in the upper right arm, causing a deep wound. A male officer suffered five stab wounds, including injuries to his head, arm, and chest—one puncturing his lung. A third officer was hurt with a minor finger wound.

Despite their injuries, the officers showed incredible bravery and determination. They managed to bring Rahman under control and take him into custody. All the stabbed officers underwent surgery and have since returned to duty.
Rahman Convicted on Multiple Charges

- Attempted murder
- Grievous bodily harm with intent
- Assault
- Two counts of threatening a person with a bladed article
- Possession of a bladed article
- Robbery against the member of the public
Police and Prosecutors Praise Heroic Officers
Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, overseeing policing in Westminster, lauded the officers for their courage and praised the quick first aid from their colleagues, saying it was vital in saving one officer’s life. She also praised the Specialist Crime Command for their thorough investigation and the teamwork across forces.
“Their bravery and selflessness in the face of danger is a testament to their commitment to protect the public,” Puddefoot said.
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor David Malone also commended the frontline officers’ courage and the prosecution team’s hard work in securing the conviction. He warned knife carriers that serious consequences await those who threaten public safety.
Rahman is set to be sentenced on Friday, December 8. Police hope the strong verdict sends a clear warning: anyone carrying knives and attacking others will be caught and punished.
