Man Found Guilty Over £1.3 Million Richmond Jewellers Heist That Led to Staff Death

Daring Richmond Jewellers Raid Ends in Tragedy

A man has been convicted for masterminding a high-value robbery at a Richmond jewellers that ended in the death of a staff member. Mannix Pedro, 37, from Woking, was found guilty of conspiracy to rob at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, 19 February. Sentencing will follow at a later date.

The audacious raid unfolded on 25 May 2024, when two men posing as customers arranged an appointment at a jewellers on Kew Road. Inside, they tied up a shop worker and fled with luxury watches worth around £1.3 million.

Flying Squad Cracks the Case

The Metropolitan Police’s elite Flying Squad swung into action immediately. They pieced together CCTV footage from all over the country and analysed phone data to track down Pedro’s involvement.

“This was an audacious robbery that was several months in the planning. I’m pleased our investigation has resulted in a dangerous offender being convicted. Our work is far from over, and our focus remains on finding the three other men involved and bringing them to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Matt Hollands, lead investigator.

Police traced the vehicle used in the robbery and uncovered Pedro as the plot’s architect—he organised the appointment and coordinated communications with the raiders.

Tragic Death of Staff Member Oliver White

The robbery’s aftermath was devastating. Oliver White, 27, the staff member who was tied up during the raid, was found dead the next day. Although his death was not treated as suspicious, it highlighted the tragic impact such violent crimes can have.

“Oliver was a huge character, very warm and a brilliant person. He lit up the room when he entered it,” said his mother, Amy Keane. “He dreamed of buying a house, starting a family, and building a bright future. His loss has left an unfillable void in our lives.”

“Oliver has been in our thoughts throughout this investigation. His death is a tragic reminder that crimes such as robbery can have far-reaching, devastating effects on victims and their families,” added Detective Sergeant Hollands.
