Body Found at Jackie Spencer Bridge After Gosport Man Vanishes
Emergency crews swooped on Jackie Spencer Bridge in Gosport this morning after a body was pulled from the water. The discovery followed frantic searches for missing 27-year-old Michael Stratton.
Body Found in Water During Search for Missing Man
Police were called to Clay Hill Road just after 9am following reports of a body in the water. Officers confirmed the found body is believed to be Michael Stratton. The family of the missing man has been informed, but final identification is ongoing.
“Body has been found in water in Gosport. Next of kin of missing Michael Stratton (27) informed. ID to be completed. Thanks for sharing appeal,” police said.
Michael Stratton Missing After Jumping from Bridge
Michael Stratton was last seen around 2pm yesterday near Jackie Spencer Bridge, often called the Black Bridge by locals. Police believe he jumped into the water, prompting a swift search by Hampshire Police and the Coastguard.
At the time of the disappearance, Hampshire Police issued a statement:
“We’re concerned for his welfare as he hasn’t been seen since around 2pm yesterday (Saturday, July 23), when he was in Clay Hill Road, Gosport. It’s believed he jumped from Jackie Spencer Bridge into the water. The Coastguard was called, but Michael hasn’t been located. We’d like to hear from any witnesses, or anyone with information. Please call 101.”
