Historic Rochdale Sex Abuse Trial Drags On
Arshad Mohammed, 55, faces shocking rape charges dating back 20 years. He denies all allegations, claiming mistaken identity. The trial covers six men accused of historic sexual offences in Rochdale.
Six Men Deny Horror Charges
Prosecutors say the defendants tormented three victims in “the most humiliating and degrading way imaginable.” But none of the six men admit guilt:
- Tahir Rashid, 54 denies 12 counts of rape, three indecent assaults, and one assault by penetration.
- Mohammed Saleem, 46 denies eight counts of rape.
- Sucklane Shah, 46 denies two counts of rape.
- Amjad Mahmood, 53 denies four counts of rape and one assault by penetration.
- Itfaq Hussain, 45 denies three counts of rape.
- Arshad Mohammed, 55 denies two counts of rape.
Victims Kept Anonymous in Court
The alleged victims are only known as Girl A, Girl B, and Girl C in court to protect their identity. Girl B’s testimony dates to abuse from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Allegations from Girl A and Girl C relate to the mid-2000s.
Defence Moves to Undermine Victim Identification
In a tense courtroom showdown, Arshad Mohammed’s barrister Bob Sastry accused Girl A of confusing her attacker during a video ID parade. The trial rages on as prosecution and defence fight over the damning evidence.
