Man Found Guilty of Brutal Doncaster Murder

A 38-year-old man has been convicted for the savage killing of 28-year-old Mateusz Chojnowski in Doncaster city centre. Steven Ling unleashed a violent, sustained attack that left Mateusz with catastrophic injuries.

Fatal Attack in Early Hours

The horrific assault happened just after 4am on Saturday, 2 July 2022. Two members of the public found Mateusz lying on a grass verge on South Parade, covered in blood and barely conscious. He suffered severe head, chest, and abdominal wounds. Despite urgent hospital care, he was pronounced dead shortly after.

So brutal were the injuries that police had to use fingerprint scanning to confirm Mateusz’s identity. A post-mortem later revealed his death was caused by multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a violent, prolonged attack.

Justice for Mateusz

Following a complex investigation led by South Yorkshire Police’s Major Incident Team, Ling was found guilty of murder. The court heard chilling details of the attack that shocked the Doncaster community.

“This has been a traumatic time for us all. We are devastated by the loss of Mateusz, who was taken from us in such a cruel and violent way. Nothing can bring him back, but we are thankful to the police and the justice system for holding his killer accountable,” said Mateusz’s grieving family.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Hodgman, who led the investigation, said: “Mateusz was subjected to a horrific and senseless attack. Our team worked tirelessly to bring Steven Ling to justice, and today’s verdict reflects the strength of the evidence and the seriousness of his actions. We hope the result provides some comfort to Mateusz’s loved ones.”

Ling is expected to be sentenced in the coming days. This tragic case has left a lasting scar on Doncaster, highlighting the devastating impact of violent crime on families and communities.
