Hackney Stabbing: Man Found Guilty of Brutal Murder
A Hackney man has been convicted of a savage stabbing that claimed the life of 20-year-old Kaan Aslan. Bruno Pateco-Te, 24, from Chelmer Road, E9, was found guilty of murder and violent disorder at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 3 April.
He faces sentencing the very next day, Thursday, 4 April.
Random Target in Deadly Revenge Attack
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said the killing was “brutal and unprovoked.” The investigation showed that Pateco-Te was out for revenge over a previous attack on a family member. Driving around in a white van with accomplices, he scoured the streets looking for a victim.
“He picked out Kaan—who had no gang ties and wasn’t involved in any assault—before stabbing him in the street,” Smith revealed. “Our thoughts remain with Kaan’s devastated family.”
Nightmare Night on Nightingale Estate
The stabbing happened just after midnight on 13 November 2017 at Monteagle Way, Nightingale Estate, E5. The London Ambulance Service arrived quickly, joined by London’s Air Ambulance team, but despite frantic efforts Kaan died at the scene from a stab wound to the heart.
Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command launched a complex investigation. Thirteen people were arrested, but only Pateco-Te was charged – on 26 September 2018. The others were eventually released with no further action, though detectives are still hunting for more suspects.
