East Sussex Man Locked Up for Rape and Child Sexual Assault
Mathew Taylor, 50, has been found guilty of multiple sex crimes at Lewes Crown Court. The Hastings tradesman was convicted of raping a woman, coercive control, and two counts of sexual assault against a girl under 13 in Sussex.
Justice Served After Victims Speak Out
The offences were reported to Sussex Police in 2021. The victims, a woman and a young girl, remain anonymous due to legal protections. Both received vital support from specially trained officers and an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor throughout the court process.
Six Years and Nine Months Behind Bars
Taylor was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison. He must serve at least two-thirds before parole consideration. Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order stops him from contacting or being near children in the future.
Detective Praises Victims’ Bravery
“The victims have shown great courage to come forward and report what happened,” said Detective Sergeant Ella Cook.
“They stood up to a bully and prevented further harm. We thank all witnesses who supported the case.
“We take all rape and sexual offence reports seriously. Support is available on the Sussex Police website for victims and survivors.”
“This case shows our resolve to catch offenders and get justice for victims.”
