James Russell Jailed for Murder of Nick Beattie

James Russell, 38, has been found guilty of murdering Nick Beattie at Winchester Crown Court. He was handed a life sentence and must serve at least 13 years behind bars.

Brutal Attack Shocks Southampton

The chilling murder investigation began after Nick’s body was discovered on a footpath in Golden Grove, Southampton, on the afternoon of Friday, March 20, 2015. Detective Sergeant Kate Barry from Hampshire’s Major Crime Team described the attack as “vicious” and “tragic.”

“This was a vicious attack which resulted in the tragic loss of Nick’s life,” said DS Barry. “It was a complex investigation and we worked extensively with the community to ensure people felt supported, safe and sure they could trust us.”

Justice Served After Long Police Probe

From the start, police were determined to bring justice for Nick. DS Barry added, “From the outset, we wanted to get justice for Nick and today this has been achieved.”
