Following a lengthy 11-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, justice was served on 20 February. Shakil Uddin, 23, from Oldham, was convicted of attempted murder and arson with intent. Lukman Khan, 24, and Riyadh Iqbal, 23, both from Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, were found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent. Meanwhile, Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, 25, serving time in HMP Hindley, and Tayyeb Majeed, 23, from Longton, Stoke, were convicted of grievous bodily harm.

The Night of Terror

On 16 December 2021, a street fight broke out between Naveed Hussain, Bilal Ahmed, Kashif Ahmed, and Ali Abbas in Longton. Kashif was stabbed in the shoulder and needed hospital treatment. Later that night, a gang stormed a Beverley Drive house in Bentilee, demanding to see Naveed Hussain. They smashed windows and doused areas of the house with petrol.

A 31-year-old woman was attacked and set on fire, suffering 65% burns. Despite doctors fearing she wouldn’t survive, she pulled through, though with life-changing injuries. She endured two months in a coma and had to relearn to walk after breaking her pelvis, ribs, and suffering liver damage.

Her 13-year-old daughter suffered 15% burns and both escaped by smashing an upstairs window and jumping out. They were treated at Birmingham hospitals.

Complex Case Cracked by CCTV and Evidence

Police pieced together CCTV footage, digital traces, and expert evidence to build a watertight case against the accused. Naveed Hussain, 32, also pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife earlier related to the incident.

Others involved—Kashif Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed, and Ali Abbas—pleaded guilty to violent disorder. All men remain remanded in custody and await sentencing.

This savage gang attack has shocked Stoke-on-Trent communities and highlighted the ruthless violence behind the fire.
