The truck’s owner immediately called kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police. Officers spotted Andrews less than an hour later, driving towards maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone on A20 Maidstone Road near 1am. They tailed him closely until he reached the roundabout at Junction 8 of the M20 — where Andrews made a shocking move.
Wrong Way, High Speed, Near Misses
Andrews joined the motorway going the wrong way, heading at up to 70mph towards London on the coastbound carriageway. He refused to stop, narrowly missing several vehicles and driving straight into oncoming traffic for over ten minutes.
Police coordinated to slow down other motorists, minimising risks during the dangerous pursuit. Andrews pushed on until Junction 2A of the M26, still driving against traffic and ignoring orders to stop.
Crash Ending and Arrest
The madness ended on Vigo Road, Fairseat, where Andrews finally stopped — then reversed the truck into a parked police car, causing significant damage and injuring two officers.
He was arrested and charged with multiple offences: failing to stop, no insurance, aggravated vehicle taking, and two counts of assault.
“Andrews put himself and the lives of others in danger when he got behind the wheel of that truck,” said investigating officer PC Josh Cooper. “Thanks to the diligence of the officers pursuing him, there were no casualties. His complete disregard for others was further shown when he rammed the police car after being forced to stop. Thankfully, he will now serve time in prison where he can consider the consequences of his actions.”
Andrews pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 8 March 2019.
