Horror Crash on A21: Hastings Man Left Seriously Injured
A terrifying head-on collision on the A21 near Vinehall Street, Robertsbridge, has left a Hastings man with life-changing injuries. The crash was caused by a driver barreling down the wrong side of the road.
Dangerous Driver Sentenced to Prison
Jean Dias, 44, pleaded guilty at Lewes Crown Court to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was slammed with a prison sentence of two years and four months and banned from driving for five years.
The smash happened at around 5:15 AM, with emergency crews forced to cut the trapped victim free from the wreckage. The road was closed for hours as police and rescue teams cleared the scene and launched an investigation.
Police Warn on Deadly Consequences of Careless Driving
“The victim’s life has been changed immeasurably as a result of this collision,” said Sergeant Vicki Rees from the Roads Policing Unit.
“This incident highlights the dangers of not paying full attention behind the wheel. While we may never know exactly why Dias was driving on the wrong side, it was likely a prolonged lapse in concentration.”
“Dias was lucky this crash didn’t cause a fatality or even worse harm to other road users.”
Crackdown on the ‘Fatal Five’ Continues
Sergeant Rees added that her team has been stepping up patrols across East Sussex to tackle the ‘fatal five’ – the top causes of deadly crashes:
- Excess speed
- Drink or drug-driving
- Not wearing a seatbelt
- Distracted driving (especially using mobiles)
- Careless, dangerous or antisocial driving
This case is a stark reminder: careless driving isn’t just reckless, it ruins lives – and the authorities won’t hesitate to bring offenders to justice.
