Serial Offender Busted for Preying on Elderly in Manchester
A ruthless man targeted elderly victims in Manchester, stalking them from the city centre before violently robbing them at home. Kiril Mihaylov, 30, of Hamilton Road, has been handed eight years behind bars at Manchester Crown Court after being found guilty of two robberies and a residential burglary.
Heartless Theft from 96-Year-Old Woman
The horror began on August 1, 2024, when Mihaylov followed a 96-year-old lady from Manchester Piccadilly Gardens onto a bus and all the way to her home in Little Hulton.
As soon as she stepped inside, Mihaylov yanked a necklace right off her neck. The terrified woman fled to a neighbour’s house and dialled the police.
82-Year-Old Woman Brutally Attacked on Street
Just weeks later, on August 26, Mihaylov struck again. An 82-year-old woman was walking down Trinity Way after shopping when she was punched in the stomach and pushed to the ground.
The savage thug tore off her jewellery — necklace and earrings — as she begged, “I’ll give it to you.”
DNA evidence found on the victim matched Mihaylov, sealing his fate as the prime suspect.
Knife-Wielding Burglar Targets 80-Year-Old Man
The very next night, Mihaylov broke into the home of an 80-year-old Salford man. At 11pm, the victim woke to find a masked intruder holding a knife inside his property.
Despite the threat, Mihaylov calmly walked away with a high-value Omega watch.
Police Crack Case with CCTV and Damning Evidence
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage that showed a masked man trailing victims from the city centre. A raid on Mihaylov’s home uncovered:
- Clothes worn during the robberies
- A mobile phone with photos of stolen goods
- Search history on how to sell stolen items
- Proof he sent the stolen Omega watch to family in Bulgaria
International police cooperation stopped the package in transit and returned the watch to its rightful owner.
Justice Served: Eight Years Behind Bars
On March 3, 2025, Kiril Mihaylov was sentenced to eight years in prison for two robberies and one residential burglary.
Police Slam Mihaylov’s Cowardly Crimes
“Mihaylov’s actions were cowardly. He systematically preyed on elderly people who were simply going about their daily lives, believing them to be easy targets,” said Detective Inspector Michael Sharples of Salford’s Neighbourhood Crime Team.
“These crimes were shocking. Many victims valued their independence, and Mihaylov’s attacks left them shaken and scared for their safety.”
“We hope this conviction offers comfort and sends a clear message: violent criminals like Mihaylov will face justice.”
