Life Sentence for Man Who Pushed Postman Onto Tube Tracks
Brwa Shorsh, 24, has been jailed for life with a minimum eight-year term after attempting to murder postman Tadeusz Potoczek, 61, by shoving him onto the tracks at Oxford Circus Tube station.
Near-Tragedy on Oxford Circus Platform
The shocking attack happened on 3 February. Mr Potoczek was dumped onto the dangerous tracks, narrowly escaping death by the live rail and an oncoming train. CCTV footage captured the chilling moment Shorsh pushed him from the southbound Victoria Line platform.
A brave passerby leapt into action, pulling the postman off the tracks just seconds before disaster struck. The hero was later awarded £1,000 by the judge for their quick thinking.
Anger Over a ‘Dirty Look’ Led to Violent Attack
During the trial, Kurdish migrant Shorsh claimed he acted out of anger after believing Mr Potoczek gave him a “dirty look.” The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) slammed the act as unforgivable. A CPS spokesperson said: “It is impossible to imagine anything that could ever justify pushing anyone in front of a train like that.”
Maxine Jarrousse-Jones from the CPS praised everyone involved in saving the postman, including the train driver who stopped the train in time.
Dangerous Attacker Behind Bars
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Painter called Shorsh “an extremely dangerous individual” and welcomed the sentence. He added: “We hope this provides some comfort and closure to his victim as he continues his recovery from this traumatic event.”
The attack has shocked commuters and highlights the harsh consequences of violent acts on public transport.
