31-year-old Omar Wilson has been locked up for murdering Mussie Imnetu in a savage attack caught on CCTV in south east London.

Brutal Nighttime Attack

Wilson, from Napier Road, Leytonstone, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars on Friday, February 28, after being found guilty at the Old Bailey on February 20.

The victim, 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu, a respected chef visiting from Dubai, was attacked at 11:22 pm on August 26, 2024, on Queensway, W2.

Mussie was discovered unconscious with a severe head injury. Police arrived within seconds and gave first aid before paramedics took over. Despite urgent hospital treatment, Mussie died four days later on August 30.

Damning CCTV and DNA Evidence

Wilson fled immediately but left behind his sunglasses, house keys, and car keys at the scene. Investigators recovered his DNA from the sunglasses, and the keys matched his home and car perfectly.

Just 90 minutes after the attack, CCTV caught Wilson travelling across London to a nightclub on Gaunt Street, where he carried on partying as if nothing happened.

His phone records also placed him at Queensway during the attack, sealing his link to the crime.

Guilty Text Messages and Failed Self-Defense Claim

Despite claiming self-defense at trial, Wilson admitted guilt in chilling texts to friends post-murder. He wrote:

“There’s a monster in me … and it’s just like sometimes it comes out. And I think I’ve messed up now … and everything’s finished.”

“I’ve f***ed up … I crossed the line and went overboard. I don’t think I can come back from this mistake … I’m going jail in the morning.”

“I did the hands ting … finished one guy man.”

One friend even advised him to “get a solicitor and use your ADHD” as a defense.

Police Condemn Senseless Violence

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who led the investigation, offered his condolences to Mussie’s family and friends across Dubai, Sweden, and London.

“Mussie was a loving husband, father, son, and a respected chef. He was in London for a few days to help train his colleagues and went out that evening to enjoy the post-Notting Hill Carnival atmosphere, where tragically he was violently assaulted.”

Wilson was arrested two days after the attack on August 28 and charged the following day. The jury rejected his self-defense claim, sending him down for 18 years.
