Kent Man Jailed Nearly Three Years for Racist Rants, Knife Threats & Domestic Assault

A 36-year-old man from Kent has been locked up for 2 years and 10 months following a shocking spree of violent and abusive behaviour. Matthew Bevan, from Joseph’s Way, was caught after a public meltdown where he hurled racist slurs and threatened a woman with a knife.

Racist Rants Spark Arrest

On March 22, 2018, Bevan caused a disturbance outside a woman’s home on Joseph’s Way. Witnesses heard him screaming racist abuse at a man he believed to be inside and quickly alerted Kent Police, who arrested him on the spot.

Knifepoint Threats and Domestic Violence Uncovered

Police investigations dug up more offences from Bevan’s record. These included:

  • Threatening a woman with a knife after a heated row back in April 2017
  • Assaulting the same woman inside a property in October 2017

Bevan later admitted to charges of threats to kill, assault by beating, and stalking at Canterbury Crown Court on July 23, 2018.

Police Laud Victim’s Courage

“Bevan has shown he is a violent man. While it can be incredibly difficult for people to escape abusive relationships, the victim should be praised for her courage in coming forward,” said investigating officer PC Tracy Lawson. “Because of her bravery, Bevan will now serve time in prison. Tackling domestic violence is a top priority for Kent Police.”

PC Lawson urged victims suffering in silence to come forward. “We are here to support victims every step of the way,” she added.

Kent Police Vow Zero Tolerance

Kent Police have reiterated their tough stance against racist abuse, domestic violence, and stalking. They encourage anyone facing abuse to report it promptly to ensure swift action and gain access to vital support services.
