Pervert Burglar Jailed Nearly Six Years for Terrifying Assault on Elderly Woman
A vile burglar who broke into an elderly woman’s home, sexually assaulted her, and stole her belongings has been slammed with a hefty prison sentence. Anthony Shackleton, 33, from Queens Drive, Prenton, was locked up for five years and 10 months at Liverpool Crown Court on October 23. After his release, he’ll serve another four years on licence and is now on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Horrific Break-In in Woodchurch
The shocking attack happened in the early hours of May 31 when Shackleton broke into a house in Woodchurch. He found his way into the victim’s room, rifled through her possessions, pinched her purse and bracelet, and then sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
DNA Evidence Nails Shackleton
Forensic experts found crucial DNA links at the scene. They matched Shackleton to a disposable vape he left behind, the stolen purse, and the victim’s clothing. Initially denying the sexual assault, he finally caved when the DNA evidence was irrefutable.
Police Warn: No Mercy for Those Who Target Vulnerable
“No one should ever have to go through what this victim endured,” said Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke. “This case sends a strong message – offenders who prey on vulnerable people will be found and punished.”
DI O’Rourke praised Operation Castle, a police drive that has reduced burglaries across Merseyside year-on-year. Thanks to relentless police efforts, more criminals like Shackleton face justice, sparing residents the trauma of becoming victims.
