Southport Man Jailed for 23 Years in Shocking Child Sex Abuse Case
Michael McGrane Sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court
Michael McGrane, 61, from Southport, has been slammed with a 23-year prison sentence for rape and indecent assault. The verdict came down on Monday, November 13, at Liverpool Crown Court, ending a harrowing chapter for his victim.
Police Probe Uncovers Years of Abuse
The investigation kicked off in January 2023 after detectives received a report of historic child sex offences. The vile crimes were discovered to have spanned several years, exposing a dark pattern of abuse.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage
“This sentence is the result of a thorough investigation aimed at ensuring that McGrane is held accountable for his utterly depraved actions,” said Detective Inspector Rob Pritchard, who led the case.
He added, “Thanks to the victim’s incredible bravery and determination to come forward, McGrane will now serve a significant jail term for these horrendous crimes.”
Police Call on Others to Speak Out
Pritchard stressed the force’s commitment to protecting children and urged anyone affected by sexual abuse to report it. “We take all reports extremely seriously. Our specially trained officers will treat you with sensitivity and compassion,” he said.
He also highlighted the long-lasting damage such crimes cause and hopes this sentence offers some comfort to the victim, reaffirming their decision to bring McGrane to justice.
