Man Held After Armed Standoff at Ventnor Hotel

A 50-year-old man has been remanded in custody following a tense standoff with armed police in Ventnor on Wednesday evening. Timothy Clark appeared briefly before Isle of Wight magistrates this morning charged with serious firearm offences.

Serious Firearm Charges Laid

Clark faces multiple charges including possessing a shotgun without a certificate and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He entered no plea during the short hearing. Magistrates decided the case is too serious for their court and must move to the Island Crown Court. No bail application was made.

Armed Police Storm Burlington Hotel

The dramatic arrest happened at The Burlington Hotel on Bellevue Road. Armed officers recovered a firearm during the operation. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed Clark’s charges include affray alongside the firearm offences.

“Timothy Clark, 50, of Bellevue Road, Ventnor, has been charged with affray, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a shotgun without a certificate,” a police spokesman said.
