Bexhill Burglar Nabbed After Triple Break-In Spree

A local man has been slammed with charges after three commercial burglaries rocked Bexhill town centre.

Alan Richardson Caught and Charged

Alan Richardson, 49, of Devonshire Road, Bexhill, faced Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 25. He pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary other than dwelling and admitted to interfering with a vehicle in Hastings.

Details of the Crime Spree

The court heard that Richardson targeted local businesses in quick succession:

  • In the early hours of October 29, he smashed into Pebbles on the Beach restaurant, Marina Court Avenue, stealing a till with a small amount of cash.
  • Just four weeks later, on November 24, he raided Poppyseed Bakery, Western Road, making off with a large haul of cash.
  • Between 5:40pm on November 23 and 8:50am on November 24, he broke into IMG Chartered Accountants on Endwell Road. Loot included cash, a £70 crystal decanter and two glasses, plus a Nescafe coffee jar.
  • Separately, on October 4, Richardson caused damage when interfering with a vehicle in Maze Hill, Hastings, between 4pm and 6pm.

Richardson Remanded Ahead of Sentencing

Richardson is currently remanded in custody and is due back at Lewes Crown Court for sentencing on December 23.

Police Praise Swift Justice

Inspector Olivia Carroll of the Rother Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I am aware of the impact these break-ins have had on the shop owners and the local community in Bexhill.

“Within 48 hours of forensic identification, we arrested Richardson, charged him with these burglaries, and recovered the stolen goods.

“This is a great result and officers have worked hard to gather evidence and bring him to justice.

“Business crime hits local communities hard. I hope this reassures the public that when we can identify offenders, we act swiftly. Please keep reporting crime to us.”
