Middlesbrough Man Jailed for Brutal One-Punch Attack
A 24-year-old from Middlesbrough has been locked up for two years after a violent one-punch assault left a man with devastating injuries.
One Punch Outside The Central Pub
Jake Smith, of North 1 Road, Middlesbrough, struck a 40-year-old man in the head outside The Central Pub on Corporation Road on 6th February. The pair had been drinking together inside before the attack.
The victim collapsed and hit his head on the pavement, sustaining “life-altering” head injuries that have left him in hospital for over nine months.
Serious Injuries, Long Road to Recovery
The victim remains in hospital undergoing ongoing treatment, with no clear end in sight to his recovery.
Police Warn: Moment of Madness Can Ruin Lives
Smith pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on Friday 10th November.
“This will hopefully bring some comfort to the victim, who continues to need care due to the severity of his injuries,” said Detective Constable John Roberts from Cleveland Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
“It stands as a stark warning: a moment of madness after drinking or taking drugs can cost you your freedom or even someone’s life. Violent incidents like this are avoidable if people know their limits.”
