Rental Rogue Swindles Families Out of £3,000 in Nottingham
A 49-year-old Nottingham man, Gullriaz Tajpuri, has been slammed with a sentence for a nasty rental scam that robbed five families of more than £3,000. The crook duped desperate house-hunters by advertising fake rental properties, pocketing deposits, then vanishing without a trace.
Families Left Struggling After Fake Rental Scam
Tajpuri targeted vulnerable families hunting for homes. He collected deposits for properties that didn’t exist and disappeared, leaving the victims out of pocket and scrambling for somewhere to live. The fraud cost the five families thousands and caused serious financial and emotional hardship.
Judge Brands Tajpuri’s Actions “Calculated and Deceitful”
Judge Lisa Marshall blasted Tajpuri’s “calculated and deceitful” scam, underlining the heavy toll on the victims’ finances and wellbeing. She ordered him to pay compensation to the families he fleeced.
Police Warn Public to Stay Alert
Detective Sergeant Mark Phillips, lead investigator, said: “This was a particularly cruel scam targeting vulnerable families just looking for a home. We’re pleased justice has been done and hope this brings some comfort to the victims.”
Authorities warn anyone searching for rental properties to check landlords and agents thoroughly before handing over cash. Victims of rental fraud are urged to report incidents to the police straight away.
