Man Jailed for Brutal Alton High Street Punch That Left Victim Brain Damaged
Two Years Inside for One Devastating Blow
Tyler David Gard, 26, from Alton, was locked up for two years after a savage attack on Alton High Street. Gard pleaded guilty to causing Section 20 Grievous Bodily Harm at Winchester Crown Court on March 3 and was sentenced on April 9.
Life-Altering Attack in the Dead of Night
The violent assault happened just after midnight on July 26, 2020. Following a dispute, Gard chased the 24-year-old victim down the High Street before landing a punch that sent him crashing headfirst onto the curb.
The victim was rushed to hospital in a critical state, placed in an induced coma, and doctors feared he wouldn’t survive.
Miraculously, he pulled through but faces permanent disability due to the severe head injury.
Police Warn: One Punch Can Destroy Lives
Gard surrendered to police later that same day. Detective Sergeant Dan Hunt slammed the attack:
“This violent act very nearly cost a man his life. The victim and his family now face the harsh reality of permanent disability every single day. One split-second decision can cause irreversible damage.”
He added a stark warning: If you’re caught up in a row, think twice. Walk away.
Justice Served, But Warnings Remain
The sentence aims to bring some closure to the victim and reassure the public that such reckless violence will not be tolerated. Gard’s actions left a lasting scar—not just on one man, but on the entire community.
