Rotherham Man Jailed for Six Years Over Knife-Point Robberies
A 30-year-old man from Rotherham has been locked up for six years after pleading guilty to three armed robberies across Rotherham and Sheffield earlier this year.
Knife-Wielding Robber Strikes Twice in Days
Daniel Allott, formerly of High Hazel Crescent, Catcliffe, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 16 October. He faced charges of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery following incidents in March.
On 15 March, Allott barged into a Post Office on Far Lane, wielding a kitchen knife. He demanded cash and threatened customers with the blade.
Luckily, the cashier managed to scare him off without anyone getting hurt.
Cigarettes and Cash Stolen at Petrol Station Raid
Just two days later, on 17 March, Allott struck again at a petrol station on Bawtry Road, Canklow. He charged the counter, leapt over with a knife in hand, and smashed open the till. He made off with cash and several packets of cigarettes.
Knife Held to Taxi Driver’s Neck
The day after, Allott ordered a taxi on Park Grange Road, Sheffield. Mid-ride, he held a knife to the driver’s neck, demanding money.
The taxi driver bravely fought back, forcing Allott to flee. Police arrested him shortly after, charging him on 20 May.
Police Welcome Tough Sentence
PC Emma Blackburn said: “Allott terrorised his victims in a string of armed robberies. There is no doubt he is a dangerous individual, and he is quite rightly now off the streets of South Yorkshire for a significant period of time.”
“I hope that his sentence acts as a deterrent to those who would consider a life of crime, and I hope the public and his victims can be reassured that we will do whatever we can to tackle shameless criminals and keep our communities safe from them.”
