Man Jailed for Blackmail and Sharing Private Images
A 46-year-old man has been locked up for blackmail and disclosing private images with intent to cause distress. Martin McMenamin, also known as Martin Hill, from Eston, was handed a 40-month prison sentence today for offences committed in October 2020.
Victim Tragically Passed Away
The victim, who was 38 at the time, sadly passed away before the sentencing. Her family attended court to hear the verdict, facing the painful reminder of their loss.
Judge Condemns Distress and Blame Game
The judge highlighted the severe distress caused to the victim by McMenamin. Shockingly, he continued to blame her even after her death. The judge also praised the victim’s family for their dignified conduct during the hearing.
Police Praise Family and Encourage Victims to Speak Out
Detective Sergeant Kayleigh Wilson said: “I am satisfied with the sentence handed to McMenamin today and would like to thank the victim’s family for their support and patience during a lengthy investigation.”
“McMenamin’s actions were repulsive. His attempts to blame the victim, before and after her death, added to the family’s distress. We hope this sentence brings them some comfort moving forward.”
“Any victim of abuse, including controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, sexual offences, or revenge porn, can come forward. Police will handle reports with sensitivity and thorough investigations.”
