Lewes Man Fined After Crazy Chase with Council Bin Lorry
A Lewes resident from Landport Estate has been slapped with a £660 fine after ramming his car into a council waste vehicle.
12-Minute Fury on the Streets
The drama unfolded earlier this year when the man’s bin wasn’t collected. Furious, he chased the bin lorry for 12 minutes, blocking its path multiple times and even overtaking on grass verges before crashing into it.
Councillor Condemns Reckless Driving
Julie Carr, Lewes District Council’s Cabinet member for Recycling, Waste and Open Spaces, blasted the man’s dangerous stunt. She said:
“This was completely reckless driving. Somebody could have been knocked over by this car and seriously injured, which is an appalling thought.”
She added that waste crew members faced “a great deal of hostility” despite staying polite. “We have zero tolerance for this kind of vile behaviour,” Carr said. “It is crucial that people drive safely around waste vehicles to prevent accidents. Anyone putting others at risk could end up in court.”
Penalty Includes Fine, Costs, and Points
The driver was hit with a £660 fine, £110 court costs, and a £66 victim surcharge. On top of that, he picked up seven points on his driving licence.
