Young Fraudster Busted After Ripping Off Medway Pensioner

An 18-year-old fraud suspect has been charged after fleecing thousands from a Gillingham pensioner in a chilling scam.

Fake Police Ploy Sees Pensioner Cough Up Cash

On 18 July 2019, an elderly woman in her 80s was duped by con artists pretending to be police officers. They claimed she was owed compensation for past fraud crimes against her — but first, she had to pay upfront fees.

Over two days, the victim gave money to a man who visited her home and even accompanied her on multiple trips to withdraw cash.

Two-Timer Faces Court Over Separate Fraud

Kent and Medway’s Serious Crime Directorate swooped and arrested Benjamin Lee from Murston, Sittingbourne, on 8 November.

Lee was charged not only with fraud by false representation linked to the pensioner scam but also a separate offence. Between August and September 2019, Lee allegedly took upfront payments for garden landscaping from a woman in her 50s from Chatham – but did no work.

He was remanded in custody and set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 11 November.
