Margate Drug Den Shut Down After Police Crackdown
A notorious house in Margate linked to drug-dealing and relentless anti-social behaviour has been slapped with a three-month closure order by Kent Police.
Closure Order Hits Westfield Road Property
The shutdown comes after Margate Magistrates’ Court granted the order on Wednesday 25 October 2023. Located on Westfield Road, the property was causing chaos in the neighbourhood with a constant stream of visitors suspected of drug activity and violent confrontations.
Strict Rules Backed by Tough Laws
Under Section 80 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the order forbids anyone but the landlord from entering the house during this period. Breaching the order could land offenders in prison or result in unlimited fines.
Police and Community Win a Breather
The Kent Police Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team acted after reports of 24/7 foot and vehicle traffic linked to drug-dealing, plus verbal and physical fights near the property.
“Our officers work closely with local police and partners to pinpoint hotspots causing havoc locally,” said Sergeant Dan Bartlett from the ASB team. “This closure order will provide much-needed relief to residents and helps us team up with housing officers to keep crime and disorder at bay. We know how damaging ASB can be, so we’ll keep using all powers to take action and bring offenders to court.”
