Tragedy at Margate Drum and Bass Festival: 21-Year-Old Man Dies
Dreamland Margate is cooperating with emergency services after a 21-year-old man died during Saturday’s Drum and Bass Festival. The one-day rave, which attracted thousands, was shut down early at 5.40pm following the medical emergency.
Dreamland Issues Statement
A spokesperson for Dreamland said:
“We are supporting the emergency services’ enquiries. Our thoughts are with the man’s friends and family at this difficult, sad time.”
Police Confirm No Suspicious Circumstances
Kent Police revealed the death is not being treated as suspicious while enquiries continue.
“A report is being prepared for the coroner,” a police spokesperson said.
South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed the patient was taken to QEQM Hospital in a very serious condition but later died.
Festival Shut Down Amid Heat and Crisis
Originally blamed on extreme heat, Dreamland posted on Facebook shortly after closing:
“Sorry guys, it was just too hot today, so we had to close early. Get home safely.”
Temperatures hit 29°C that afternoon, adding to the tense atmosphere at Margate’s popular venue.
Second Festival Death in Two Years
This shocking death marks the second fatality at Drum and Bass events held at Dreamland within two years. In June 2024, 17-year-old Emily Stokes died from an MDMA overdose at a previous festival.
An inquest had criticised inadequate medical provisions back then. Since, Dreamland enforced stricter entry checks, boosted medical staff, and banned under-18s.
Despite these moves, emergency services and security were overwhelmed on Saturday, dealing with dispersal orders and controlling large crowds spilling onto nearby streets.
What’s Next?
- A post-mortem and coroner’s inquest are expected.
- Dreamland’s event safety rules may face fresh scrutiny.
- Police urge any witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.
