Leics Man Locked Up for 10 Years Over Shocking Child Sex Abuse
A Leicestershire man has been handed a decade-long prison sentence for abusing a child more than 20 years ago. Carl Hamilton, 39, from Market Harborough’s Welland Park Road, was convicted last Friday at Leicester Crown Court.
Victim Comes Forward After Two Decades of Silence
The victim, now an adult, bravely reported the abuse to police in November 2019. She revealed the horrific ordeal began when she was just three years old in 1999. Hamilton raped and assaulted her repeatedly until 2002.
Hamilton Denies All Charges but Jury Sees Through Lies
Hamilton refused to comment during police questioning. Yet at trial, he was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and three counts of rape on a girl under 14.
“When the abuse started, she was just three years old. She was completely unaware that what he was doing to her was completely and utterly abhorrent,” said Detective Constable Aisling McPhillips.
“Despite the severity of the allegations, Hamilton refused to admit his crimes, meaning the victim had to relive her ordeal again in front of a jury. Thankfully, they saw through his lies.”
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery, Urge Others to Speak Out
Detective McPhillips hopes the verdict brings the victim closure and sends a clear message to other survivors. “It’s never too late to report sexual abuse to police,” she added.
