Met Police Crack Down on Hooligans with Live Facial Recognition
The Met is rolling out Live Facial Recognition (LFR) at two main gates of Emirates Stadium this Sunday. The aim? To spot and stop known troublemakers before they cause chaos. Since January, this tech has helped cops catch over 1,300 dangerous criminals, including more than 100 tied to violent crimes against women.
Real-Time Tech Powers Rapid Police Action
Officers will be kitted out with live-streaming body cameras, sending sharp footage directly to control rooms for lightning-fast responses. Specially trained cops will also carry SelectaDNA spray, a unique marker that tags troublemakers during any scuffles. Forensics can later track these offenders using UV light, making it harder for them to slip away.
Keeping Football Fans Safe Is Top Priority
Deputy Assistant Commissioner James Harman said: “The safety of football fans is our top priority. Using tech like LFR helps officers prevent crime and keep the public protected so everyone can enjoy the game.”
Lindsey Chiswick, LFR lead for Met and UK, added: “LFR is a game-changer that lets us find people wanted or under court restrictions. We only use it when intelligence shows a threat to public safety, ensuring a balanced approach.”
