Cop Caught Drunk and Naked in Public Avoids Sack! A Met Police officer was caught stone-cold drunk and in nothing but his underwear, causing chaos in public. Instead of getting the boot, PC Christopher Garraway-Driscoll has been hit with a five-year final written warning after admitting he lost control due to heavy drinking.

Drunken Rampage in Underwear

On October 8, 2023, off-duty PC Garraway-Driscoll was found near a public area totally drunk and wearing only his underwear. Witnesses heard him “repeatedly swearing and shouting” in the early hours, sparking significant disruption.

The misconduct panel revealed that “significant police resources had to be spent” just to get the officer safely back to the bed and breakfast where he was staying. Shockingly, he also “behaved abusively towards the police officers” helping him and was “discourteous” to the B&B owners on arrival.

Misconduct Hearing Reveals More

At the misconduct hearing, Garraway-Driscoll admitted his actions were misconduct but denied it was gross misconduct. He claimed a concussion might have played a role, but the panel found no solid proof. They blamed his behaviour squarely on drinking too much.

“The officer’s actions were unacceptable and placed members of the public, as well as responding officers, in difficult and potentially unsafe situations.”

Despite the rowdy episode, the panel spared him dismissal, highlighting his previously spotless record as a “productive, effective, and hard-working police officer”. They also took into account personal stresses and his genuine remorse.

Final Written Warning Issued

The panel handed down a tough five-year final written warning for gross misconduct. They stressed the incident “brought discredit to the force” and damaged public trust.

“We believe the sanction reflects the seriousness of the misconduct while allowing the officer the opportunity to demonstrate his continued value to the force.”

Public and Police Mixed on Punishment

The decision to keep Garraway-Driscoll on the force has sparked mixed reactions. Some fear the punishment was too soft given the need for top standards in the police.

Others argue his clean record and difficult personal circumstances justify the leniency.

Met Police Responds

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“We expect the highest standards from our officers at all times, both on and off duty. We acknowledge the panel’s decision and will ensure the officer complies with the terms of the final written warning.”
