Coronation Chaos: Police Warned of Protest Plot with Rape Alarms and Paint Attacks
Police Claim Plot to Disrupt Coronation Parade
Sir Mark said cops had intel about plans to spoil the coronation procession using rape alarms, loud hailers, paint bombs, and vandalism. Writing for the Evening Standard, he revealed that officers found people carrying possible lock-on devices and pretending to be event stewards, equipped with plastic bottles filled with white paint—suspected tools for criminal damage.
“Although the arrests were unfortunate, I fully support our officers targeting this criminal network during the event,” Sir Mark added.
Mayor Demands Review After Arrests Spark Controversy
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called for a full review of the police operation. He wants assurance that the circumstances around the arrests will be examined and lessons learned to avoid future mistakes.
Meanwhile, Scotland Yard issued a statement expressing regret over six arrests where intent to disrupt could not be proven. All six had their bail cancelled with no further action taken.
64 Arrested Amid Coronation Security Sweep
In total, 64 people were arrested during the coronation, including members of Westminster’s women’s safety campaign, Night Stars, who hand out rape alarms and safety gear. The heavy police presence and their handling of arrests have sparked public debate and criticism.
