Sussex Drink-Driving Crackdown Nets Care Worker, Carpenter, and Engineer

A computer engineer, a care assistant, and a carpenter are among the latest to be caught drink-driving in Sussex during a harsh winter police blitz.

Operation Limit Cracks Down on Drunk Drivers

Last month, Sussex police launched Operation Limit, a nationwide campaign targeting motorists who risk lives by drinking behind the wheel.

Officers stopped hundreds of drivers and arrested a staggering 233 suspected offenders during this month-long crackdown.

Key Convictions From Sussex Courts

  • A motorist appeared before Roads 123 Magistrates’ Court on January 4 after admitting to driving over the legal alcohol limit. He was banned from driving for one year.
  • On November 18 at 11.15pm, a driver was spotted swerving dangerously on 123 Road in town. Her glazed eyes and erratic driving led officers to a breath test registering 109mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
  • Another offender, a 30-year-old carpenter, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen, and fleeing the scene after an incident on Henfield Road, Albourne. Police later caught him at home, where a breath test showed 95mcg of alcohol per 100ml.

Serious Risks and Tough Penalties

Police warn the dangers of drink or drug-driving include:

  • Causing death or serious injury
  • A minimum 12-month driving ban
  • Unlimited fines
  • Potential prison sentences
  • A criminal record damaging future job prospects
  • Spiking car insurance costs
  • Restrictions on travel to countries such as the USA

Sussex officers urge everyone to keep roads safe this winter by steering clear of drink-driving. The message is clear: Don’t drink and drive – it’s not worth the risk.
