Road Blitz in Broad Oak: Over Half of Vehicles Fined or Warned

A no-nonsense six-hour crackdown in Broad Oak Road saw over half of the 152 vehicles stopped slapped with fines or warnings. The operation, held on the afternoon of Saturday 18 May 2024, targeted dangerous driving and vehicle defects, turning the heat up on careless motorists.

Specials and Police Cadets Join Forces

Kent Police’s Special Constabulary teamed up with cadets to check if vehicles were roadworthy and drivers were obeying the law. Officers were out in force, cracking down on the “fatal four” driving sins:

  • Speeding
  • Using mobile phones behind the wheel
  • Not wearing seatbelts
  • Driving under the influence of drink or drugs

They also had firm words with drivers about safe road behaviour during the swoop.

Sin Bin for Speeders, Bad Tyres and No Insurance

Of the 152 vehicles stopped, 61 were reported for offences including:

  • Speeding
  • Dangerous vehicle conditions like worn tyres
  • Seatbelt offences

Two cars were seized for having no insurance. Another 20 vehicles received warnings, including one for anti-social driving. Several were also penalised for no tax or invalid MOT certificates.

Special Inspector Issues Stark Warning

“Kent Special Constabulary volunteers work hard to remind motorists of their responsibilities to keep our roads safe,” said Special Inspector James Johnston.

“Driving a car that isn’t roadworthy or insured puts everyone at risk. During this operation, 54 per cent of vehicles were found with issues and faced action. Let this be a wake-up call for all drivers to play their part and drive safely.”
