39 Found Dead in Shocking Lorry Tragedy in Grays
A murder probe is underway after 39 people were discovered dead inside a lorry container in Grays, Essex. Emergency services rushed to Waterglade Industrial Park just before 1.40am on Wednesday 23 October following a distress call from ambulance workers.
Tragically, 38 adults and one teenager were pronounced dead at the scene. The horrifying find has stunned the nation.
Driver Arrested as Investigation Intensifies
Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland on suspicion of murder. Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner said: “This is a tragic incident where a large number of people have lost their lives. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened.”
Officers are working to identify the victims, a process expected to take some time.

Police believe the lorry entered the UK from Bulgaria via Holyhead on Saturday 19 October. The driver remains in custody as investigations continue with international partners.

Chief Superintendent Mariner added: “I appreciate this cordon is going to disrupt the activity of local businesses in the area and we will work to keep disruption as short as possible. We’re working with Thurrock Council to minimise local impact.”
