Man Found Guilty of Brutal Double Rape in Northampton

A 40-year-old man has been convicted of rape after a chilling attack in Northampton.

Mohammed Ali Sheikh, once from St Michael’s Road, lured a woman to a Clare Street property in the early hours of May 28, 2024. There, he raped her twice. The brave woman managed to escape and reported the horrific ordeal to Serenity, the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, and Northamptonshire Police.

Quick Police Action Snaps Up Attacker

Northamptonshire Police’s SOLAR Team launched a swift, multi-angle investigation to track down Sheikh and the crime scene. Their hard work paid off with his arrest and charges for two counts of rape and one of attempted rape.

The trial kicked off on December 2 and stretched over 10 intense days. On December 19, the jury reached a unanimous verdict in just over five hours – finding Sheikh guilty on all counts.

Survivor’s Courage Praised by Police

“The woman in this case has shown exceptional courage throughout the court process,” said Detective Constable Elisha Lofthouse, lead investigator. “I want to thank her for her bravery, support, and the trust she placed in us. No jail time can undo the harm, but I hope this conviction brings some closure and justice.”

Sheikh is set to be sentenced on February 14, 2025.
