Two Burglars Caught and Locked Up in Less Than 48 Hours
Two West Cumbrian men were snapped, charged, and sentenced for breaking into a Workington clothing shop—all within 48 hours.
Quick Justice for Trespass Shop Break-In
Sean McAvoy, 47, of Peter Street, Whitehaven, and Liam McConnell, 28, from Gameriggs Road, Whitehaven, faced Workington Magistrates’ Court on 4 July.
McAvoy pleaded guilty to burglary and three counts of theft, landing eight months in prison. McConnell admitted burglary and was jailed for six months.
Bragged to Police Before Crime
The drama unfolded just after midnight on Monday (3 July), when police were called to a break-in at Trespass in Workington.
Cops recognised the duo from CCTV footage and a prior run-in earlier that night, where the pair boasted they’d “get up to no good” and “there’s nothing the police could do about it”.
Stolen Clothes Worth Over £1,300 Found—and Blood at the Scene
The police tracked stolen gear strewn around the town, leading them to a Workington address. Inside, McAvoy and McConnell were caught red-handed with numerous Trespass items still sporting security tags.
The haul was worth over £1,300. Some clothes were stained with blood after McAvoy cut his elbow breaking in.
Detective Sergeant Lawrence Burden said: “Both men were traced extremely quickly. The evidence was overwhelming, so they had no choice but to own up in court.
“Lots of locals walking past the Trespass store on Monday morning will have seen the damage. We hope they now know justice was swift and firm.”
