Lucy Letby Breaks Silence After Second Baby Dies

Nurse Lucy Letby confessed to a colleague that the death of a second baby was “all a bit much.” The 32-year-old faces chilling accusations of murdering a premature infant known as Child C—just days after allegedly killing Child A and trying to murder Child B back in 2015.

Letby is currently on trial at Manchester Crown Court" target="_blank">Manchester Crown Court. She denies murdering seven babies and attempting to murder ten others between June 2015 and June 2016.

Night Shift Horror: Baby Collapses and Dies

The court heard that Child C, weighing only 800g (1lb 12oz), mysteriously collapsed during Letby’s night shift and died shortly before 6 a.m. on June 14. After the shift, Letby sent grim messages to friends and co-workers revealing the emotional toll.

“Sorry if I was off, just wasn’t a great start to the shift but sadly it got worse,” she told colleague Jennifer Jones-Key.

“I was having difficulty accepting what had happened to me (Child A). We’ve now lost (Child C) overnight, and it’s all too much. I keep seeing both of them.”

“No one should have to witness or participate in the things we do – it’s heartbreaking.”

Letby’s Heartfelt Messages to Family and Colleagues

She also messaged her mother, Susan: “We lost a little one overnight – very unexpected and sad.” Letby added that Child C was under the care of a “new girl,” Sophie Ellis, who was “devastated.”

Susan responded with reassurance: “We are so proud of you, love you.”

To Ms Ellis, Letby texted: “We’re a good team, and we’ll get through. You did an excellent job.”

Sharing the grim news with another colleague, Letby said the death “all happened very quickly” and described the whole ordeal as “a nightmare.”

Privacy Order in Place as Trial Continues

A strict court order bans revealing the identities of both surviving and deceased children allegedly targeted by Letby, as well as any parents or witnesses involved. The gripping trial is ongoing.
