Margate Bank Holiday Robbery: Police Hunt Good Samaritans

Police want witnesses after a robbery on Margate’s August Bank Holiday night turned violent.

Assault and Theft in Marine Drive Shelter

Just before midnight on Monday 28 August 2023, a man in his 30s was sitting in a shelter on Marine Drive when two men and a woman approached him. After a brief chat, the victim was assaulted, and his mobile phone was snatched.

The stolen phone was later found discarded nearby.

Public Intervenes, Arrests Made

Good Samaritans stepped in, helping the victim escape the scene. Police arrived promptly and arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both with no fixed address, on suspicion of robbery. They have since been released on bail until 23 November.

Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

Detectives want to track down the members of the public who intervened. Anyone with info or dash-cam footage from Marine Drive around the time is urged to contact Kent Police at 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/154872/23.
