Massive Blaze Tears Through Ilford Church Late Saturday

A huge fire ripped through a church on Kingston Road, Ilford, late on Saturday night (17 May 2025). The inferno badly damaged the roof and completely destroyed an outbuilding next to the church.

Emergency Services Mobilise Big Time

The London Fire Brigade rushed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene after getting more than 14 emergency calls from alert locals. Crews from Ilford, Barking, Plaistow, Stratford, and Leytonstone pitched in, with a 32-metre turntable ladder dispatched from Greenwich to tackle the blaze.

Fire Flares Up Late, Under Control By Early Hours

The fire started just before 11pm and was brought under control by 12:43am Sunday. While the church’s single-storey roof took heavy damage, a rear outbuilding was razed to the ground. Nearby, a terraced house suffered external damage, including burnt fascia and garden fence panels.

Seven Treated For Smoke Inhalation, Two Hospitalised

Seven people received treatment for smoke inhalation, with two rushed to hospital as a precaution, London Ambulance Service confirmed.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Fire investigators are now probing to see if further inquiries are needed.
