Blaze Erupts at Indian Arma on Woodford Avenue
At 9.04pm on Friday, emergency services were called to Indian Arma on Woodford Avenue following reports of a fire. The blaze was quickly confirmed as a petrol bomb attack.
Burns and Smoke Inhalation: Five Hurt
London Ambulance Service treated five people for burns and smoke inhalation. Two victims were taken to a major trauma centre, while three others were hospitalised locally.
“We were called at 9.04pm today (22 August) to reports of a fire on Woodford Avenue, Ilford,” a spokesperson said. “We sent ambulance crews, paramedics, an incident response officer, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated five people for burns and smoke inhalation.”
Manhunt Underway as Police Treat It as Arson
The Metropolitan Police have launched a manhunt for those behind the attack, classifying the incident as arson with intent to endanger life. A large cordon remains in place as forensic teams comb the scene overnight.
Residents described hearing a “loud bang” followed by chaos as diners and staff fled the smoke-filled restaurant.
“This was a reckless and deliberate attack that has left several people seriously injured,” a Met source said. “We are conducting urgent enquiries to trace those responsible and urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and have appealed to motorists with dashcams to share any recordings from the area around the time of the attack.
