Bin Blazes Spark Chaos Across Gillingham Streets

In the early hours of Saturday, 25 September 2021, multiple rubbish fires broke out along Grange Road, King Edward Road, Forge Lane, High Street, Canterbury Street, and Copenhagen Road in Gillingham.

Gas Main Ignites, Forcing Evacuations

At one blaze, a gas main caught fire, causing damage to a house front window on Copenhagen Road. This prompted urgent evacuations of several residents nearby as Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to extinguish the flames.

Man Arrested and Charged After Fiery Spree

Following investigations, police arrested Marin Marinov, 29, of Grange Road. He now faces two counts of arson recklessly endangering life and one count of arson. In a separate incident on the same day, he was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon in public and using threatening or abusive behaviour.

Next Court Date Set for October

Marinov appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 27 September and was remanded ahead of his Maidstone Crown Court hearing on 25 October.
