Police Find Baby Remains Near Arrest Site of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon
Officers searching a wooded area near where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested have made a grim discovery — the remains of a baby.
Crime Scene Locked Down As Investigation Intensifies
A crime scene has been established and will remain active for several days while investigators work. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said, “It is my very sad duty to update that this afternoon, police officers searching a wooded area close to where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested, discovered the remains of a baby.”
“This is an outcome that myself and the many officers who have been part of the search had hoped would not happen.”
“I recognise the impact this news will have on the many people who have been following this story closely, and can assure them that we will do everything we possibly can to establish what has happened.”
Suspects Held as Police Appeal for Calm and Information
Marten and Gordon remain in custody after a 36-hour detention extension was granted by Brighton Magistrates’ Court. Police have urged the public and media to avoid speculation that could prejudice upcoming court proceedings.
No further details about the discovery will be released at this stage.
