39-Year-Old Busted After Wave of Shop Raids in Clifton and The Meadows
Neighbourhood cops have nailed a 39-year-old man in Clifton following a spate of business raids across Clifton and The Meadows between March 11 and April 23. The arrest comes after thorough investigations targeting repeat offenders hitting local shops hard.
Suspect Linked to Vehicle Thefts and Fraud
The man is also under the microscope for a string of thefts from vehicles in Clifton between April 4 and 16. Authorities believe he used a stolen bank card, taken from a car in Wilford, to commit fraud.
New Nottingham South Police Chief Vows Crackdown
“We know what an impact shoplifting can have on businesses in our community, which is why I’m pleased we have been able to make this significant arrest,” said Inspector Steve Dalby, head of neighbourhood policing in Nottingham South.
“Shoplifting isn’t a victimless crime. It hits local businesses, their employees, and the wider community hard, both financially and emotionally.”
“We’re using every tool to tackle the small number of repeat shoplifters targeting our town centre.”
More Police Action on the Horizon
Inspector Dalby revealed plans for “proactive initiatives” including dedicated days of action to slash retail and vehicle crime. Authorities will also seek criminal behaviour orders to ban persistent offenders from entering certain shops and areas.
“Our hardworking businesses don’t deserve to be targeted,” he added. “We want to send a clear message: we won’t tolerate shop theft. We will catch offenders and bring them before the court to answer for their crimes.”
