Woman Found Guilty of Murder in Chilling Early Morning Attack
Joanne Moran, 43, from Bridge Road, Litherland, has been convicted of murdering Jonathan Gibbons. The verdict came after a tense trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
Fatal Stabbing at Dawn
At 4.45am on 30 October 2022, police were called to a property on Bridge Road after reports of a stabbing. Jonathan Gibbons, 50, was found with a serious chest wound. Despite emergency hospital treatment, he later died from his injuries.
Justice Served, Police Say
Moran denied the murder charge but was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday 12 April.
“It is pleasing to see that Moran will have plenty of time behind bars to reflect on her actions on that tragic day,” said Detective Chief Inspector Matt Caton. “Her violent actions led to the death of a man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.”
“I hope this sentencing brings them some comfort and a sense that justice has been served. I offer my condolences to Mr Gibbons’ loved ones and hope this brings some closure in their grief.”
Warning Over Domestic Abuse
Detective Chief Inspector Caton added: “Domestic abuse is a shocking and reprehensible crime. It is never acceptable, no matter who it affects.”
“Merseyside Police are committed to thoroughly investigating domestic abuse reports and prosecuting offenders. We also provide extensive support for survivors.”
“We know this isn’t a fight the police can take on alone. That’s why we work with partners to encourage victims to come forward and offer help.”
“We focus on evidence-led prosecutions, which can proceed even if victims choose not to press charges.”
“If you’re in a violent or controlling relationship, don’t stay silent. Reach out for help. You are not alone. There are many organisations ready to support you.”
“Friends and neighbours should also speak up if they suspect abuse. Trust your instincts—if something feels wrong, it probably is. Domestic abuse isn’t just physical. It can be emotional, sexual, financial, or controlling behaviour.”
