Shots Fired in Crawley Park Sparks Late-Night Arrests
Two people have been locked up after shots rang out at Northgate Playing Field in Crawley just after 3:30am on Sunday, July 21. Police swooped quickly, launching a search that included a drone with thermal imaging. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Knife Found and Suspects Nabbed Nearby
During follow-up searches, officers recovered a knife in nearby North Close. Two suspects were then spotted and arrested at a nearby address. Police have sealed off Northgate Playing Field as they dig deeper into the incident. Expect a heavy police presence in the area this afternoon as the investigation continues.
Police Reassure Public Amid Growing Concern
“Thankfully incidents of this nature are extremely rare,” said Detective Chief Inspector Pauline Lane, District Commander for Crawley and Mid Sussex. “We’re treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider community.”
DCI Lane added that officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Two Arrested: Teen Charged With Knife Possession and Drug Supply Links
- An 18-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in public and involvement in Class A drug supply.
- A 14-year-old boy from Kent was also arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife in public.
Both suspects remain in custody.
