Stolen Car Chase Ends in Crash and Double Arrest in Kirkby-In-Ashfield
Police nabbed two suspects after a high-speed chase through Kirkby-In-Ashfield ended in a smash-up on Tuesday morning.
ANPR Alert Sparks Rapid Police Response
Nottinghamshire officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Sutton-in-Ashfield’s ANPR cameras at around 10.20am on April 26. Intelligence quickly revealed the car was flashing false plates and was likely stolen.
Minutes later, the getaway car was traced to Blidworth Road, Kirkby-In-Ashfield. When police tried to pull it over with emergency lights flashing, the driver floored it – racing away and running red lights.
High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash
After a short pursuit, the stolen vehicle lost control on Kingsway and smashed into another car and a wall. Both occupants jumped out and bolted.
Officers searched the area, catching and detaining a 38-year-old man and a 60-year-old man.
Two Arrested on Multiple Charges
- The 38-year-old faces suspected dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and no insurance.
- Both men were also arrested for suspected vehicle theft.
Police confirmed the car had been reported stolen just days earlier, on April 22.
“This was a great example of our officers using technology and intelligence to catch criminals,” said Sergeant Ian Coleman of Nottinghamshire Police.
“The reckless driving was totally unacceptable. Luckily, no one was hurt.”
“Car theft wrecks lives, and we won’t stop chasing those responsible. We’ve arrested two suspects but investigations continue. Anyone with info should come forward.”
