Police Hunt New Witnesses in Gosport Cycle Rage Tragedy
Police have stepped up their search for witnesses after a deadly clash between a cyclist and a couple in Gosport. The shocking incident on Bury Road left 70-year-old Roy Galvin with fatal injuries. Now officers are combing the area for anyone who saw what happened or caught it on camera.
Man in Wheelchair’s Husband Dies After Cyclist Clash
Roy Galvin, from Alverstoke, suffered a serious head injury on 25 September during a dispute with a cyclist while out with his wife, who uses a wheelchair. Despite hospital treatment, Mr Galvin sadly died on Wednesday.
The cyclist allegedly pushed Mr Galvin to the ground in the incident near a telegraph pole on Bury Road, Gosport, around 5.45pm. Officers have spent the past week interviewing hundreds of motorists and passers-by trying to piece together the events.
Cyclist Charged with Manslaughter
A 28-year-old man from Gosport initially charged with grievous bodily harm is now facing manslaughter charges. He remains in custody and is due to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 31 October.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward – Photos and Dashcam Footage Needed
Detective Inspector Adam Price made a fresh public appeal Sunday afternoon. Officers will be at the scene on Bury Road engaging with the public, keen to find a witness who reportedly took photos on their phone around the time of the assault.
“We have not yet spoken to this person, who could be an important witness, so I would urge them to contact us,” said DI Price.
Police also want anyone who was in the area, stopped to help, or has dashcam footage that might shed light on the incident to get in touch. If you saw anything or have not spoken to police yet, call 101 immediately.
