Firework Attack on Police and Teens Shocks Southwick
Chaos erupted in Southwick on Saturday night when a gang of around 10 males launched fireworks at police and teenagers. The shocking incident happened just after 10.25pm on Carlisle Terrace.
Teens and Officer Suffer Serious Injuries
- Two teenagers were stopped by officers on patrol.
- Suddenly, the group appeared nearby on Davison Terrace, firing rockets.
- A 14-year-old boy was hit in the upper arm and suffered hearing damage.
- One rocket bounced off an officer, exploding on his side and causing serious burns to his arm and torso.
- Both the officer and the teen suffered possible perforated eardrums.
- The other teen had a firework explode near his face but escaped serious injury.
The attackers fled as the injured took shelter behind a police vehicle.
Police Launch Full Investigation and Arrest Five Suspects
Northumbria Police link the group to earlier disorder in Southwick since 6pm. So far, four males aged 14 to 19 and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested and remain in custody.
“We are absolutely appalled by this incident and will not stop until we find all those responsible,” said a police spokesperson. “We’ve arrested five people in connection with this attack and inquiries are moving fast.
